Christian Education

On Sunday mornings we are blessed to have many Christian Education offerings for all ages. These classes and groups are run by dedicated volunteers devoted to the spiritual growth and development of all participants. Each opportunity is outline below.

Godly Play

3k-5k meets upstairs in the new building,  9:30am-11am

1st-4th grade meets upstairs in Rose Community building, 9:30-10:20am

IMG_1842This Montessori-based approach to Christian formation invites children to wonder together in a safe, nurturing community.
Each week, teachers present a sacred story, a parable, or a story about the liturgical life of the church.  The children then have a chance to choose their work for the day – drawing, building, playing with the stories themselves.   Lindsay Powers leads a team of teachers that includes Kim Lassiter, Kathy Whicker, Cindy Wilson, Katie Jones, Julia Harris, Lucy Jones, and Frances Knight.

For our littlest children, Godly Play overlaps with the 10:30 worship service.  At 11am, kids can be picked up outside the Godly Play room or They will be brought into church to join you for the remainder of worship.  For 1st-4th graders, Godly Play ends at 10:20am so that children can join their parents for worship or serve as acolytes.

Junior High Sunday school

Grades 5 – 8

Meets upstairs in the new building  9:30-10:20am

Jenni Hargett and the Rev. Peter Gray lead our kids through a great curriculum called Connect, which encourages theological wrestling with familiar biblical stories.  A two-year curriculum, this year we are focusing on the life and ministry of Jesus.  Each lesson includes a video, time spent discussing scripture, and a fun activity.  Kids receive a Bible that helps them focus on the topics of each lesson.

High School Sunday school

Grades 9-12

Meets in youth room  9:30am-10:20am

Charlie Swayze and Harris Powers lead this casual opportunity to talk about what’s going on at school and in our lives, share the importance of faith to us, and wrestle with challenges of living a Christian life.

Adult forum

All adults

Meets in Parish Hall  9:30am-10:15am

On Sunday mornings, our Adult Forum meets to participate in a rotating series of offerings. Our first Adult Forum series of the year is an in depth study of the Book of Exodus, entitled Exodus:  Gateway to the Bible.  The premise of the study is that Exodus serves as background and as a template for much of Holy Scripture, and that learning this story opens up new understandings of the rest of the Bible.  Dean Kidd leads this class with assistance from Rachael Faught.
