William Willimon

Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5, we are delighted to host the Rev. Dr. William H. Willimon, Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry at Duke University, former Bishop of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church, and for twenty years the Dean of the Chapel at Duke University.

Dr. Willimon is a highly regarded preacher as well as the author of over seventy books and journal articles too numerous to count. Over the course of our three days together, our speaker will present on the topic: Why Jesus?  According to Dr. Willimon, Jesus is the most interesting thing the Church has to say to the world, and he’s the most interesting thing about us as believers.

Jumping off from his book Why Jesus?, Friday evening we’ll talk about who Jesus was: vagabond, peacemaker, party person, preacher, and more!  Then, Saturday morning, we’ll turn our attention to Jesus’ unique way of teaching: his story-telling and parables.  Dr. Willimon’s final lecture will look at how the church understands the meaning of Jesus.

As in previous years, our speaker will preach at the 10:30am service of Holy Eucharist in what will be, I’m sure, a memorable sermon. I hope you’ll make plans to be with us once again. As in previous years, a block of rooms has already been reserved across the street at the Alluvian Hotel. Our website will be a good source of information as the schedule is finalized, and you can also let us know you’re coming by registering here!
