Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Nativity EYC invites you to join us for our Annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper in the Parish Hall. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, coffee, and juice. We will accept donations to support the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) at Episcopal Church of the Nativity.

The day before Lent begins is called Shrove Tuesday, which comes from an old English word, shrive, which means to hear a person's confession of sin, give assurance of God's forgiveness, and offer spiritual counsel.

It was the custom that one came to the evening meal only after one shrove, and thus the name Shrove Tuesday. The custom of eating pancakes for the evening meal comes from England. Pancakes are a convenient way to use up the fat stored for cooking (the can of bacon drippings) that would not be used during Lent.
