Morning Prayer: Feast Day of Saint Bartholomew

  • Church of the Nativity 400 Howard Street Greenwood, MS, 38930 (map)

Join us at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity for a special moment of reflection and devotion as we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle. Saint Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael, holds a revered place among the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, as recounted in the New Testament of the Bible.

According to the Gospel of John, Bartholomew's journey began when he was introduced to Jesus by the enthusiastic disciple Philip. With curiosity and skepticism, Bartholomew initially questioned the significance of Nazareth, but heeded Philip's invitation to "come and see." His encounter with Jesus was extraordinary, as Jesus recognized him as "an Israelite in whom there is no deceit." Astonishingly, Jesus revealed that He had seen Bartholomew under a fig tree even before their meeting, deeply impacting Bartholomew's heart and prompting him to declare Jesus as the Son of God and the King of Israel.

As we gather for the Morning Prayer service on Thursday, August 24th, at 8:15am, led by the guiding voice of Billy Bowman, we commemorate Saint Bartholomew's steadfast faith and dedication to Christ. Your presence will help us honor his memory and draw closer to our own spiritual journey.
